They sure can be good subjects when they're eating! I've coaxed a few into letting me get VERY close as long as there were some nuts on the ground for them to continue eating. Very cute picture - this one looks like it may have had a few too many cookies in its lifetime :P

He's a little chub, alright! Look how tiny his head looks compared to his body! He looks very well loved! LOL! ... He's a cutie, though, and I liked being able to see his little fingers on the cookie. Too cute! :)

Then he'll want a glass of milk! Perfect add to the book.

What another fun set of shots! Thanks again for the grin :)

Very closeup. Are those mini oreos? This little guy must be pretty popular. Look at how he's been packing on.

It's unbelievable how you were able to capture Oreo King. Now I know to bring some "baits" w/ me on the trail. Any chance you've sent this to Nabisco? It may be considered for one of their commercials.

He'll want a cup of milk to go with it, when you give him a cup of milk, he'll want some chocolate to go in it . . . I love those books.

BTW, I don't know the difference between a squirrel and a chipmunk but it's claws scare me!

Derrick,

He was actually quite pushy. He kept running back and forth for more cookies, but refused to eat any until he was satisfied that you had given him enough.

Brian,

Next time I’ll see if he’s interested in something more healthy like cucumber slices or carrot sticks :)

Ian,

Thank you :) I’ve been quite fortunate when it comes to capturing unique animal moments. I’m hoping the lucky streak continues.

L`artiste,

The funny thing is that he even stole some food from the other creatures that were feasting nearby.

Michelle,

Thanks :) How could someone not try to capture a moment like this.

Armeen,

I’d let photographers scoot a bit closer for a some cookies, too :)

Momo,

I’m curious how many cookies he’s had to eat in his lifetime to get this big. I think he was all too familiar with the packaging though, because he would leave me alone once he saw me pull out the Oreos!

Rock,

I absolutely love capturing animal oddities. There’s something so fun and playful about moments like these that you have to share them with someone. I’m hoping Mother Nature keeps up with her comical ways as long as I have a camera in hand.

Alicia,

Mini Oreos, indeed. Despite their miniature size, he was quite a huge squirrel. I think past visitors must have been feeding him the original sized cookies.

Kokopelli,

I haven’t sent out any photos of this "Cookie Monster", but your idea intrigues me.

Dating Dummy,

I’m allowed to say this because I’m your adorable, sweet, loving, younger sister. You’re such a dork! :)

Jamie,

They’re favorites of mine, too :) I’d love to be able to try and publish a children’s book with some of my images.

My knowledge of squirrels and chipmunks isn’t that great, but as far as I know, squirrels are the ones that have bushy tails.

Don’t be afraid of his claws. "The better to eat Oreos with, my dear." :)

Wow ! Those are fantastic pictures ! I don't know which one I prefer... the butterfly or this cute squirrel !
You must be an animal lover and they must feel it since they didn't fly or ran away !
Great capture !

Ooooooooooh, now I can't believe you did this just with the help of a cookie... What's your secret, come on, spill! :-)

Seriously, a wonderful moment you captured there.

Hi, Lady. What a lovely shot! It's amazing how cooperative the animals can be when food is the motivation. :) Thanks again for stopping by my site and commenting on my chipmunk shots, it's most appreciated. :)

By the way, you may have chipmunks around and not know it. They'll only come out of hiding for a good reason -- food! :) Put out a birdfeeder or some corn cobs and see what happens.

Holy cow that thing is fat! I wonder if its all the cookies I eat causing my body to do the same thing...hmm. I'll blame it on extra strong gravity lately. I think thats the problem...haha

Sidney,

I’m definitely a friend to all animals, whether they have paws, claws, hooves, or wings. As long as they’re willing to pose for the camera, I’ll be there to capture those moments.

BK,

I like to think it's my raw animal magnetism and irresistible charm that draws all the creatures to me. Having cookies just sealed the deal :)

Leo,

He’s so chubby he takes up most of the frame! I’d have backed up a bit more, but I was worried that any movements might scare him away. I’d rather have a huge, Oreo-eating squirrel than no squirrel at all :)

Jon,

Given the number of cookies he munched on, I think all that giggling was from the sugar high.

Chantal,

That’s sweet of you to call him "little". The consensus here is that he’s pretty much a gigantic squirrel that needs to give diet cookies a try.

Jane,

As Cookie Monster once said, "I’ve never met a cookie I didn’t like." :)

OutdoorExposure,

Thank you :) I’m hoping more of his friends will let me take photos the next time I’m around.

Navin,

Funny you mentioned that. Before I was able to get my camera out, Mr. Squirrel was already working on a couple of cookies. The little rascal actually ate them the way the boy explained in the commercial: cream filling first!

Dylan,

I know EXACTLY what you mean. What’s great about the internet is that I can share this photo with an unlimited number of people. It’s the next best thing to having someone there with you :)

Alexandra,

Hmm . . . maybe a Nabisco spokes-squirrel today, a Weight Watchers one tomorrow!

Cruise,

It’s amazing what animals (and people) will do for a cookie :)

Lisa,

This was the first time I had ever met a begging squirrel. I know it’s not the most health conscious thing to give him sweets, but how could I resist that furry little face :)

Mel,

To get that big, he probably could have!

Mike,

And to think that this was his "before" shot. Imagine what he must look like once all the tourists are done feeding him :)

Kevin,

I’ll be sure to bring some carrots and celery along next time to help him slim down :)

Judith,

Thanks for giving me the link for your chipmunk montage. That series was absolutely adorable! Now I’m anxious to see if we have some clandestine chipmunks in our surrounding neighborhood :)

David,

Cookies. Nature’s perfect food :)

Payam,

He was so big that I didn’t really have to get that close. He pretty much filled the frame just sitting there :)

The Architect,

He was that chubby when I got to him! Though I don’t suppose I helped his weight problem any :)

Yungyaw,

Mr. Squirrel seems to think that a cookie a day keeps the doctor away :)

This was taken with a Canon 10D with the "friend maker" Canon 70-200/4L at 200mm, exposed at f/4 and 1/100th of a second. Due to the strong side lighting, a +1 EV was dialed in to get details on the shadow side.

Rachel,

And if you give a squirrel some milk, he’ll ask for a straw :)

Kate,

This shot was taken before those 100 Calorie Pack Oreos came out. Hopefully he’s switched to something a little more low cal.

Jamie,

Who knows? There may just be a market for me yet. If something does managed to get published, I’ll be sure to let you know :)

Joe,

I’ve missed so many great photographic opportunities that I’ve learned that having a camera out while animals are present is a must.

Ed,

School’s keeping me pretty busy, but I’ll be trying to post twice a week from here on out.

Potty,

Take a lesson from Mr. Squirrel and try not to eat your body weight in cookies :)

Legabal,

Thanks :) This was too cute not to share with all of you.

ChickyBabe,

If only all animals would pose for an Oreo.

Ariela,

I’m not sure what the health risks are for squirrels and chocolate, but I think that wild animals have a different tolerance level for certain substances. Judging by this guy’s figure, I think a little more chocolate wouldn’t hurt too much :)

He’s even got a sly grin on his face as he enjoys his loot. Next time, don’t let him take so many. I didn’t get any Oreos! :(

Patina,

Lots of laughs and many smiles were had when shooting this. I hope it brings smiles and laughter to whomever else sees it.

Emma,

I think Oreos may be his cookie of choice. He seemed to recognize the bags once we took them out of our cooler.
