This is only one of the poses he was striking. Glad you enjoyed the shot.
Heidi,
Very true. At first I didn’t know what else to call this photo. Off the top of my head he looked like a jelly donut :)
Yungyaw,
I think he might have been feeling a bit itchy because he kept swimming in circles trying to catch his feet. When he realized people were watching him, he started to do it just for fun. I think he actually liked having photos taken of him.
Lisa,
Thank you :) Sometimes the hardest part is coming up with the title, though at times it’s the most fun, too.
David,
The challenge is half the fun. If I always got the shots I wanted, I’d have no reason to come back for more. As long as I get one good photo per gig, I’m satisfied with my day’s work. I guess I should be glad I’ve gone digital. It’d be too expensive otherwise!
Payam,
Neither had I, which is why I was more than happy to take photos of this playful event.
Kokopelli,
I’m not too sure PETA would approve, but the sea lion was definitely cute.
Jamie and Anad,
Thanks :) You should’ve seen some of his other antics.
Dating Dummy,
Two of the three "tail-like thingies" are actually his hind flippers. I guess since he couldn’t reach his tail he had to settle for his left flipper.
The camera sings in you capable hands :) After (again) viewing the EXIF, you made good use of the clean image rendition of the Rebel XT even at ISO 1600, allowing you enough depth of field and action stopping speed of 1/800 sec.
Almost forgot: Excellent image, of course! Please show us more :)
It’s sad to think that a "typicalfish" like you doesn’t have an aquarium to visit. I guess we’ll have to settle for your amazing non-aquatic photos instead :)
Leo, Sidney, Chantal, and Alexandra,
Thank you :) It was quite easy to get a good shot with this playful creature.
Anna,
That’s why I’m glad I’ve gone digital. If I were shooting film, I’m sure I’d be in major debt right about now.
Ariela,
He seemed to enjoy being the center of attention. I’m hoping to go back and visit him again soon.
Steve,
Another visit from Mr. Urkel himself. Your analyses of my photos have been dead on so far. I’m hoping soon you may even impart some wisdom through constructive criticism. I’m a tough girl. I can take it :)
Miss Mo,
Good luck with your new second graders :)
I’m glad you like the photo. You should delve more into photography yourself. I’m curious what a creative gal like you would come up with.
Jenn,
Hmm. I may have to put down my camera and pick up Alice Through The Looking Glass to see what you’re referring to.
Beautiful light and a very sharp image of something I presume was shot through 3 inches of glass! The pose is pure bonus. Obviously there's a bit of cinnamon with that ring.
Thanks :) Having a playful subject made this a lot of fun.
Helen,
It’s a possibility. The whole time he could’ve been thinking “just what ARE these flippery things that keep following me?”
Navin and Peter,
Well, these guys do kind of sound like dogs when they bark :)
Tobias,
This sea-lion most certainly loved the camera. He was almost cartoon-like with all the poses he kept striking. I’ll be sure to post more later.
Manic Mom,
DD actually decided to copy yours truly when it came to photography. It’s about time he finally bought himself a decent camera ;) Thanks for stopping by. It’s kind of nice to know that written bloggers check out the photoblogs every once in a while.

David,
Here's that diva-like display I promised. This sea lion sure loved posing for the camera :)
Funny caption. I guess this is the sea lions version of a dog chasing it's tail. Too funny!
Hehe, this really is a nice capture! Sea Donut, heh! Hm, could also be a Sea Onion Ring! ;-)
Haha! Sea donut. Why was he/she biting his/her 'feet'? Feel itchy? Haha!
WOW! What a fantastic capture! I love the title as well. The colors here are SO wonderful . . . LOVE IT! :)
HAHA. This is awesome. What a little camera hog :)
Great work on a tough shot though. Shooting in an aquarium is really hard.
hah, never seen 'em do that before!
A new Krispy Kreme flavor on the rise!
Very cute!
What's he eating? It looks like there's three tail-like thingies!
That is a funny shot ;)

Hahaha! Great title and nice catch! I wish we had an aquarium around here... :(
Cute. Way to capture a moment.
Funny. Never saw something like that !
Very surprising !
What a lovely photo, and funny as well.
Such an adorable photo! Sealions have so much personality. :)

LOL! That's so cute, and what a neat capture... sealed with a ring! ;-)

Wow ... You are GOOD!
It's just one fabulous picture after another. I like this one. :)
lol, that sea lion must be hungry!

Brian,
Flippers or fish. It’s all the same to him :)
Wow, what a fantastic capture! Great work. :)
Perhaps, just perhaps he had just discovered his flippers like babies and dogs do?
Still this is an awesome photo. yep a Sea Doughnut :)
It's quite amazing how felxable these are. I like the colors that you captured in this shot, keep up the good work.

SO far I have only seen dogs chasing their tails

Fantastic capture!
What? Is the whole family into photography now? Beautiful work, little sister of DD.
Great shot, beautiful
Judith, L`artiste, and Jane,

Really great shot! Hard to balance the underwater blues, but you do a great job here. Funny caption, too!
Julio, Owen, and Mike,
Thank you :) It was more than my pleasure to have the opportunity to photograph him. Here’s hoping for more great sea lion shots in the future.
I guess the sea lion was chasing it's tail like a dog and caught it. Great capture!
Oh that's gorgeous! I love seals/sealions - they're my all time favourite animal. Adore them to bits - and this is just wonderful! AWWWWWWW!
Alicia,
Thanks :) He totally loved the attention.
Jem,
Stay tuned, I’ll be posting another sea lion photo soon :)
Maybe we can go donut hunting soon :)
I prefer the ones with chocolate glaze.
The Fiancé,
Well, I have been craving some Krispy Kreme’s :) We’ll try and go after my first set of midterms.
Ansel,
You can’t go wrong with sprinkles either.
What a fabulous image - striking!
Ian,
I’m thinking they may have classified this guy incorrectly. He’s no sea lion, he’s a camera hog!
